House Update

It’s been a while since I talked about moving in and settling down (mainly because I’ve been really lazy about doing it, and I’ve been knitting instead!)  So, for my family and friends who have been pestering me, I finally took a few pics.  And I’m posting them to share, even if you haven’t pestered me!

This is the small wall that makes up one side of the column standing at the corner of the kitchen, living room, playroom, foyer.  This side faces the kitchen, and as such, isn’t really “public”, but making it pretty makes me happy while I’m in the kitchen!  (The apron and potholders were a set made for me by a dear, dear friend, and although I wear the apron sometimes for the convenience of putting things in the pocket, I take extreme care not to get anything on it!)  By the way, the sign says, “A messy kitchen is a happy kitchen, and this kitchen is delirious!”

Next up, my knitting spot…. nothing special, but it’s just comfy and cozy.  I can cuddle into the lovesac (like a big beanbag chair, but filled with small chunks of memory foam instead of styrofoam beads) and watch the kids playing, see the tv, see the front door (and anyone coming up to it!) and the backyard,  or watch tv.  It’s my little hub.  My concept is to fill the wall behind it with favorite family photos, in mismatched black frames.  The sign over the family portrait currently there says “Family…. all because two people fell in love.”  (I didn’t bother neatening up first, so you can see my pile of pillows and blankets, and my current knitting project nestled in there!)

And in getting ready to host a little get-together on Thanksgiving, I got into the Christmas spirit a bit, and started a (very!) little bit of decorating!  It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…. but only in front of our fireplace!  The little tree is our advent calendar — little doors in the base each hold a magnetic ornament — when all the ornaments are on the tree, it’s Christmas Eve!  The small pots on the mantle hold cinnamon scented candles, and the larger pots at the base of the fireplace hold an assortment of silver ornaments and cinnamon scented pinecones.  (I got the idea for decorating the pots from Emily at Remodeling This Life — check out her version and some other cute decorating ideas!!) And, well, you know where the stockings are from — If all goes according to plan, two more will join them within the next few weeks!

  1. I love how things look! that wall in your kitchen is so cute! Your relaxing spot looks perfect. And I love your pots with ribbon. The silver looks really nice. I am usually not into silver and gold but this year, I have been trying to do more with them for some sparkle and glitter and they’re kind of growing on me! Your fireplace is gorgeous. I sure do miss having a fireplace and mantel this time of year. Can’t wait to see two more stockings soon!
