I’m back?

Well, the first trimester threw me for a loop that I never could have predicted….  See the little counter over…. there <—- ?  The one that says “I haven’t knit much recently?”  It’s not just that I haven’t updated for a while — I really haven’t knit much lately.  When I had the first two kids, I knew the basics of how to knit, but I wasn’t a Knitter (with a capital K, of course).

Well, this go-round, my most prevalent aversions have been to chicken, tuna, and knitting.  No, that’s not a typo.  I actually had motion sickness whenever I tried to knit for weeks on end (notice, though, that I kept making attempts.  Some knitters would just put it aside and not think about it for a while…  Not me!  I’m too stubborn for that!)

I did, over time, worked out some specific strategies that helped me get my yarn fix — plain knit stitch wasn’t too hard on me, in shortish bouts.  Sitting straight up made a difference, having a little something dry to eat first.  But mostly, I think it’s just a matter of waiting it out.  I am getting better by the day, and even mastered some sock ribbing!  (I actually did churn out a pair of self-striping stockinette socks for Brandon, so I can prove that I didn’t give up entirely.)  But I do think that my original goal of knitting a half-marathon this year is not going to happen — oh well, I need something to shoot for next year!  (And I’m sure that with two pre-schoolers and a newborn, I’ll have nothing better to do than knit, right?  All in a day’s work….)
