Tell-All Wednesday

A.K.A.  WHAT was I thinking?  (We had a power outage yesterday while I was writing this post, and I was just too tired/busy/annoyed to get back to typing afterwards, so I left my computer off and knitted instead.  I knew you’d understand!)

Because I have oh-so-much free time as it is, I decided to sign up for a “new” knit-a-long. (Well, only new to me — it’s been around for a few years already.)  It’s the Six Sox Knitalong, where there are 6 original sock patterns released throughout the year, with the goal to be to knit 6 pairs of socks over a 12 month period.  I’m starting out with the sock KAL that started in February, and I’ve just knit enough on this toe-up sock to, well, cover my toes.  The pattern looks exciting to me, so I’m thinking I’ll make fairly speedy progress on it.

I’m still plugging away on Jeanie, but I’m finding less and less time to work on it.  It’s too long to comfortably take with me to work on at knit nights, and I can’t pick it up to take it around the house as easily either.  And, well with the kids around, I just don’t get too many long uninterrupted times to sit down and knit.  Oh well, maybe someday I’ll get it finished!  😉

The double-knit socks are actually at a comfortably wearable point now, but I’m still amazed how much yarn I have left.  I used a scale to divide my yarn, and started toe-up socks so I could get the most usage out of my available yarn.   I still have a lot of yarn left, and I’m really happy with the yardage of this yarn.  I like how it knits, but I haven’t worn or washed it yet, so I can’t tell you anything else about it, but so far I’m really pleased.  It’s Mountain Colors Bearfoot in the huckleberry colorway, for anyone interested.  I got it as part of my birthday present from my mom last year — a mini-shopping-spree-at-the-yarn-shop-we-passed-on-the-way-to-my-grandparents’-house.

I have two sweaters planned for as well.  I’ll share more details on them as I get started with them.  Right now, I’ve got yarn on special order from my LYS for Sweater 1, and a KnitPicks box en route with Sweater 2’s humble beginnings.
